A multi layered, technically delicate project was funded by the BBC Performing Arts Fund and had its pilot launch at London South Bank University October 28,29 & 30th. The project featured three fragile home-based performers on Skype taking part in a live show devised and acted by six of the 3rdthought company.
The production explored topics such as : living under house arrest, being cast-away, the ideas of exiles in Shakespeare ( As You Like It and King Lear),divided societies (Israel /Palestine, East & West Germany…). 3rdthought were changing gear after a very successful visit to the Edinburgh Book Festival & Fringe with ‘Invisible People’.
Exiles was aided by excellent production support from MA students from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.
It was made possible by grants from the BBC, United St Saviours Charity, Aubyn Dyer and Lord Stevenson. On completion of this important piece of work thoughts turned towards a collaboration with UfaFabrik and Theater der Erfahrungen (Theatre of Experience) in Berlin for UFAFabriks Boulevard Festival 29 & 30 August .
